Amazing Vegetarian Apple Pie

Your Vegetarian Kitchen’s Amazing Vegetarian Apple Pie relies on the kind and the quality of the apples used. For best results we use Cortland or Macintosh Apples as they are sweet and tart and have just the right moisture content to be tender yet crisp.

*Preheat oven to 400°

Ingredients:

  • 3 - 3.5 # Firm Cortland or Macintosh Apples washed, cored, peeled and sliced into sea salted RO or Spring Water
  • Drain and put the apple slices into a large bowl
  • Add ½ Cup Grade B Real Maple Syrup
  • 1 Tbs. Chopped Candied Ginger (optional)
  • 2 Tbs. Unbleached Organic Flour
  • 2 tsp. Cinnamon Powder
  • ½ tsp. Allspice (optional)
  • 6 Pats Butter or Earth Balance

Method:

Wash the apples with Veggie Wash. (Yes, even of they are organic apples or just picked from the tree in your yard they need a bath to remove the air born contaminants.) Peel and slice the apples thinly. Toss Apple Slices well with all of the dry ingredients. Pile into a prepared 11” pie shell and dot with 6 pats of Butter. Put top crust in place, trim and flute. Score with a fork to allow the juices and steam to escape. Place a single strand of uncooked spaghetti upright in the middle of the pie. Place on a parchment lined cookie sheet in the oven. Bake at 400° for 45 minutes to 1 hour. Serve warm as is or with our Eggless Ice Cream, or Sliced Cheddar Cheese.
